All entries submitted were assessed based on their unique factors such as first in the world, taste, packaging, unique or natural ingredients and overall presentation. We use the Shells of Water Caltrop, which is usually abandoned as unnecessary, as the most important part in the Circular Economy System in Guantian, Taiwan. In which shells can be used as dyes, arts & crafts materials, deodorizer, vinegar and most importantly, biochar fertilizer for rice. By the procedure of carbonization, water caltrop shells significantly create benefit for both soil (improving soil fertility/tilth, increasing soil carbon and decreasing nutrient runoff) & atmosphere (carbon capturing, odor/N2O/methane soil emissions reducing and carbon negative energy). With biochar fertilizer, we brought out the best taste of the popular Koshihikari rice in Taiwan.
